The Objection Is Not the Problem. Your Response to It Is.

Philomena Moncoeur • September 11, 2026

Every sales conversation will eventually hit a moment of resistance. "I need to think about it." "It is not in the budget right now." "I am not sure this is the right time."

Most entrepreneurs hear these words and feel deflated. They take it personally. They back off. They discount the price. Or they give up entirely.

But here is what experienced closers know: an objection is not a rejection. It is a request for more information, more clarity, or more confidence. When someone says "I need to think about it," they are usually saying "I am not yet sure enough to say yes." Your job is to find out what is missing, not to retreat.

The most effective response to almost any objection is a curious, calm question. "What would make you feel more confident moving forward?" "Is it the investment that feels uncertain, or is it something else?" "What would need to be true for this to feel like an easy yes?"

These questions shift the dynamic from a pitch to a partnership. They also tell you exactly what to address so you can actually help the person make a decision.

YOUR TASK THIS WEEK: BUILD YOUR OBJECTION RESPONSE GUIDE

Write down the three most common objections you hear in your sales conversations. For each one, write out a calm, curious question or response you can use to address it without pressure.

Practice saying those responses out loud. The goal is to respond with confidence and curiosity, not defensiveness or desperation.
